A technical cooperation agreement was reached between the 1.5 million-ton-per-year coal chemical project in Xingan League, Inner Mongolia, and Zhejiang University. The pilot project for the integrated production of products via the low-temperature pyrolysis of lignite and subsequent hydrogenation, with an annual output of 1.5 million tons, in the first phase of the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Xingan League, Inner Mongolia, recently saw ceremonies held for the investment, research and development, design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and technical aspects of this project. Inner Mongolia Nuomenhan Clean Coal Co., Ltd. has entered into a long-term technical cooperation agreement with Zhejiang University. **Fang Mengxiang, a scientist specializing in the low-temperature pyrolysis of lignite and a Ph.D. from Zhejiang University, explained that this project employs a combined production technology for the clean utilization of lignite in Inner Mongolia through coal grading and conversion. This technology uses pyrolysis to transform the hydrogen-rich components in coal into gas and tar; the gas can be used to produce natural gas, while the tar can be further hydrogenated to produce gasoline and diesel. The semi-coke resulting from pyrolysis can then be gasified and burned, thereby enabling the simultaneous production of heat, electricity, oil, and gas. This technology will significantly improve the level of resource utilization and comprehensive value of coal, helping to alleviate the shortage of oil and gas supplies in our country; it represents a development direction for clean coal utilization that is currently receiving **priority support. Wang Qinhui, deputy director of the International Energy Research Center for Clean Conversion and Utilization of Coal Technology (Experimental) and a Ph.D. from Zhejiang University, said that Zhejiang University has completed the development of key technologies for the pyrolysis-based hierarchical conversion and differentiated utilization of coal, and the technology is now ready for industrial application. Next, Zhejiang University will engage in long-term cooperation with Nomenhan Clean Coal Co., Ltd., focusing on the research and development of a technology for the simultaneous pyrolysis, gasification, and staged conversion of lignite in dual fluidized bed systems to produce coal tar and other products. It will also establish joint research institutions and mechanisms for training collaborative researchers, carrying out both laboratory studies and industrial-scale tests ; Collaborate on carrying out industrial demonstrations and applications for the combined production of heat, electricity, gas, tar, and coke through the cyclic fluidized-bed pyrolysis and combustion of lignite for staged conversion, in order to achieve industrial demonstration and large-scale application of this technology. Ulijimiren, chairman of Inner Mongolia Nuomenhan Clean Coal Co., Ltd., said that this project is a coal chemical initiative that aligns with **industrial policies aimed at the efficient, advanced processing, and value-added utilization of aged lignite; it is also a project funded by the **973 Science and Technology Program, a key research project under the **8th Five-Year Plan, and a project related to the commercialization of major achievements from the 863 Program. The company has reached a 10-year partnership with Zhejiang University in terms of strategy, technology, talent, and industry-university-research collaboration; the support from Zhejiang University will provide strong backing for the project’s technical equipment and production facilities.
