New Method for Flue Gas Desulfurization in Coal Coking Author/Source: Sinochem New Network Date: May 12, 2020 Clicks: 21 Recently, the MLF fully dry-type baffled bed active calcium-based desulfurization technology developed by Jiangsu Minglang Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. has been successfully applied to the treatment of flue gas generated during the dry quenching of coke ovens, opening up a new technological route for flue gas desulfurization in the coal coking industry. According to Gao Zhidou, the company’s chairman, the sulfur content in the exhaust gases released during the dry quenching of coke ovens in the coking industry far exceeds the **environmental emission standards. However, due to the special characteristics of these gases, they have not been effectively purified, which poses a serious challenge to clean production in this industry. To address the challenge of purifying sulfur dioxide from the off-gases generated in coking dry quenching, Minglang Company organized its technical staff to carry out research and development, resulting in the creation of an active calcium-based desulfurization process using MLF dry sulfur removal beds. By applying this technology, two sets of desulfurization and dust removal devices for the gas emitted from dry quenching in the Jiujiang Coking Plant in Qian’an, Hebei, were installed, and they have been operating stably and up to standard for 5 months. Third-party testing results show that the sulfur dioxide content in the treated flue gas is less than 50 mg/Nm3. Once the desulfurization agent in the device is fully loaded, sulfur dioxide levels can be kept below 15 mg/Nm3, which is well below the **specified emission limits. “This technology can not only solve the desulfurization problem of the off-gases from dry quenching of coke, but also treat the off-gases in the pre-storage chamber separately, or it can be used in combination with other off-gases from dry quenching of coke. ”Gao Zhidou analyzed that this technology is easy to operate, has low operating costs and minimal maintenance requirements; it can handle the removal of sulfur dioxide at various concentrations, with a desulfurization efficiency of over 99%. Moreover, with the overall process and equipment remaining unchanged, this technology enables the adjustment of the sulfur dioxide output level to meet **minimum emission requirements, something that is not possible with current semi-dry and fully dry desulfurization methods.
What is a desulfurizer? How to handle by-products?
It is presumed that the principle is similar to calcium-based desulfurization, using a sulfur-removal bed device; the methods and approaches should be better. This method achieves a decent desulfurization effect, but chemical reaction-based adsorption for desulfurization presents issues related to processing scale, adsorbent replacement, and waste solid disposal. Compared with Jiangnan’s ammonia-based method, Jiangnan can reduce sulfur levels to below 35 ppm, and the resulting waste solids are green, environmentally friendly fertilizers.
