Technology for producing aromatics through the alkylation of benzene and methanol – Author/Source: Sinochem New Network; Date: 2019-09-25; Clicks: 52. A few days ago, the technology for producing aromatics via the alkylation of benzene and methanol, developed by CNPC’s Urumqi Petrochemical Branch, was evaluated by experts as being at an internationally leading level; this technology fills the gap in China regarding methods for increasing the production of xylene from benzene. This technology generates toluene and xylene through the alkylation of benzene with methanol, providing a new method for obtaining p-xylene and helping to alleviate the shortage of xylene raw materials. In 2008, Wuhu Petrochemical began exploratory research on catalysts and process technologies for the alkylation of benzene with methanol. After 10 years of intensive scientific efforts, catalyst preparation techniques were developed through preliminary pilot and scale-up studies, enabling the industrial-scale production of such catalysts. In October 2018, Wushihua Petrochemical completed the calibration of the industrial pilot plant with a capacity of 30,000 tons per year, as well as the preparation of the process package for a capacity of 500,000 tons per year.
The Urumqi Design Institute has a process package for this. This is also pretty good. Suitable for aromatization modifications, but it’s not yet very early at this stage. Well, this thing can be made, but the PX market has been too volatile lately
