The Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical’s demonstration project for the selective utilization of coal to produce new chemical materials is located in the Yushen Industrial Zone; it is currently the largest coal chemical project under construction in the world. The total investment planned for this project is around 126.2 billion yuan, and once completed, it will be able to process approximately 24 million tons of coal per year. The project comprises 27 process units along with the associated utility systems, mainly including 15 million tons of coal pyrolysis at medium and low temperatures, 5.6 million tons of methanol, 1.8 million tons of ethylene glycol, 2 million tons of olefins, as well as downstream products derived from these raw materials. On July 1, reporters visited the construction site. On this large construction area covering approximately 13 square kilometers, construction work of various types was being carried out in an orderly manner, with the roaring sounds of bulldozers, rammers, cranes, and concrete pump trucks being extremely loud. It is understood that this site brings together the highest standards in coal chemical engineering construction. Once completed, the project will become a model for coal conversion with the largest coal processing capacity in the world, the highest degree of industrial integration, the most complex technology integration, and a supply chain that is closest to the end market. It represents the highest level of development in the coal chemical industry at present, and will have a profound impact on the further development and direction of China’s coal chemical industry.
