New 300,000-ton PBAT and BDO facility to be built in Qinzhou Author/Source: Coal-based New Materials Date: 2021-09-02 Clicks: 5 It has been reported recently that Guangxi Hua Yi New Materials Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hua Yi Group (600623), plans to build a facility for producing 300,000 tons per year of the biodegradable material PBAT, along with a related BDO production facility. Huayi Group currently has 3 enterprise technology centers and 6 monitoring laboratories, 5 municipal-level enterprise technology centers, and 15 high-tech enterprises in Shanghai. In recent years, Huayi Group has achieved the consolidation of its strengths and chain-like development through strategic expansion, industrial restructuring, and innovative transformation. It now has five core business areas: energy chemicals, advanced materials, green tires, fine chemicals, and chemical services, with 40 factories located in 11 provinces and cities outside its home region. Guangxi Huayi New Materials Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of Shanghai Huayi Group, responsible for the construction and production management of the integrated chemical new materials facility in Qinzhou, Guangxi, operated by Shanghai Huayi (Group) Company. ——Huayi is focusing on the “four new” industries of \"new energy, new materials, new environmental protection technologies, and new biotechnology.\" On the afternoon of July 21st, Liu Xunfeng, Party Secretary and Chairman of Shanghai Huayi Group Co., Ltd. (600623) (hereinafter referred to as \"Huayi Group\"), Chen Dasheng, Vice President, and Wang Jinhui, Secretary of the Board of Directors and Director of the Party Committee Office/Group Office, visited Donghua Technology (002140) for guidance and exchanges. At the meeting, Zhu Dinghua, Deputy General Manager of Donghua Technology, and Yang Fang, General Manager of Shanghai Huayi Information Technology Co., Ltd., signed the strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of their respective parties. At the same time, the company’s relevant department heads gave presentations on the technical approaches of BDO and PBAT processes, as well as the progress of the smart construction site systems. Liu Xunfeng pointed out that Huayi Group adheres to the **strategic goals and the requirements associated with Shanghai’s urban development objectives. It accelerates its expansion overseas and advances its business presence across the country. By leveraging its strong foundation in the chemical industry, the group promotes industrial transformation and focuses on the \"four new\" sectors of new energy, new materials, new environmental protection technologies, and new biotechnologies. This approach helps to create an integrated industrial chain, enabling Huayi to achieve a development model characterized by a unified organization with operations nationwide and overseas. The Huayi Qinzhou Integrated Chemical and New Materials Facility is located in the Qinzhou Petrochemical Industrial Park, covers an area of about 8,000 mu, and requires a total investment of around 70 billion yuan; its construction will take place in three phases. Among them, the first-phase industrial gas island project, with a total investment of around 14.3 billion yuan, is part of the coal chemical industry chain. Construction began in November 2017; it produces industrial gases such as hydrogen, syngas, and nitrogen for use by users within the industrial park, as well as chemical products such as methanol, ethylene glycol, and acetic acid. On April 3, 2021, Tianchen Chemical of China successfully carried out the no-load trial run of the first cyclic gas compressor for the Guangxi Hua Yi Industrial Gas Island project, marking the start of the trial operation phase for the project’s key equipment. At 14:00 on August 21, the ethylene glycol plant, which was EPC-general contracted by Donghua Technology, started up successfully for the first time and produced qualified ethylene glycol products. Image: The second-phase light hydrocarbon cracking and comprehensive utilization project has a total investment of 20.8 billion yuan. It focuses on ethane cracking and propane dehydrogenation as its core processes, producing products such as polyethylene, ethylene glycol, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), acrylic acids and esters, polyether polyols, caustic soda, and polyvinyl chloride. In March 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the turnkey project of the 300,000-ton/year butanol plant, the 200,000-ton/year bisphenol A plant, the 300,000-ton/year caustic soda plant, and the 400,000-ton/year polyvinyl chloride plant. The third-phase methanol-to-olefins and downstream processing project, with a total investment of around 18.3 billion yuan, will produce products such as polypropylene, polycarbonate, polymethyl methacrylate, caustic soda, and polyvinyl chloride; construction is expected to begin in 2025. Guangxi Huayi New Materials Co., Ltd. has established a 300,000-ton/year production facility for the biodegradable material PBAT, along with a related BDO production facility, at its base in Qinzhou. It can take advantage of the products produced at this base as raw materials, as well as various supporting infrastructure, thereby enjoying benefits associated with industrial clustering. ——“During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, **policies will strongly promote the development of biodegradable plastics.** During this period, **policies will push forward the advancement of biodegradable plastics.** Degradable materials based on petrochemical feedstocks mainly include diacid-diol copolyester series (including PBS, PBAT, PBSA), polyglycolic acid (PGA), polycaprolactone (PCL), and CO2 copolymers, etc.
