On May 20, an online meeting was held to launch the project \"Research on Key Technologies for Quality Assurance in 5G Industrial Applications\", which is part of the special initiative under the Key R&D Program focused on the quality infrastructure system. This project is led by the Comprehensive Technical and Economic Research Institute for Instruments and Machinery in the machinery industry, with research carried out jointly by units such as Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd., the National Institute of Metrology of China, and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. **Zhang Jialin, project manager at the China 21st Century Agenda Management Center, the professional organization in charge of managing key research and development projects, explained that this project aims to address the complex and diverse industrial application scenarios and on-site environments by breaking through the key technologies necessary for ensuring the quality of 5G applications in industrial settings. It involves developing a set of quality assessment indicators and evaluation methods for 5G industrial applications, as well as methods for measuring physical channels and signal strength in complex industrial environments, along with techniques for traceable metrology. The project also focuses on creating key testing, metrology, and assessment tools, as well as verification systems for typical application scenarios, thereby providing informational support for the use of 5G in the industrial sector. It is reported that Yulin Chemical Company has jointly established a joint innovation laboratory for 5G applications in the chemical industry with the Comprehensive Technical and Economic Research Institute for Instruments and Meters in the Machinery Industry, China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd., and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Located at Yulin Chemical Company, this laboratory builds on the findings of the 5G Industrial Joint Innovation Laboratory. It utilizes practical applications within the Yulin Chemical industry, as well as 5G industrial terminals and network capabilities, to test and evaluate key technologies and equipment. This approach aims to provide the industry with cost-effective 5G application solutions that can be replicated and scaled up, thereby accelerating the process of digitalization, networking, and intelligence development, and creating demonstration projects for 5G+ safe production practices in the chemical industry. To date, the project has made significant progress in areas such as the development of 5G industrial standard frameworks and key standards, wireless channel measurement for industrial application scenarios, tracing and quantitative simulation of signal strengths in complex environments, metrological tracing of key physical parameters, as well as the establishment of 5G industrial application test beds and typical use cases. Project team members said that they will seize the current strategic opportunity to overcome the key technical challenges related to quality assurance in 5G industrial applications, meet the diverse needs of various industries, and advance the innovative integration of 5G and industry on a high-quality basis. They aim to turn Yulin Chemical into an excellent example of a chemical enterprise that integrates advanced information technology effectively, thereby accelerating the digital and intelligent transformation of the chemical industry.
