Recently, Guangdong Petrochemical’s petroleum coke hydrogen production complex was successfully handed over, marking the entry of China’s first 100% petroleum coke-based hydrogen production complex into the preparation phase for operation. The petroleum coke hydrogen production complex at Guangdong Petrochemical was put into operation on December 16, 2019. The total scope of work included the installation of 1,238 sets of equipment, the welding of 1.2 million inches of process pipelines, the pouring of 260,000 cubic meters of concrete, and the installation of 17,000 tons of steel structures. It is the largest single unit among all the facilities in Guangdong Petrochemical’s integrated refining and chemical processing project, featuring the greatest floor area, the most structural elements, the most concrete poured, and the highest number of equipment units. It is also China National Petroleum Corporation’s first petroleum coke hydrogen production facility. The entire facility comprises 6 gasification units that utilize GE’s 6.5 Mpa rapid cooling gasification technology. Using petroleum coke, a by-product of oil refining plants, as raw material, and after undergoing conversion and purification processes, it supplies hydrogen and fuel gas to the entire plant. The annual production of hydrogen amounts to 1.6 billion m3, while the annual production of fuel gas is 3.1 billion m3; the plant consumes 231.09 tons of petroleum coke per hour. It is reported that on September 23, 2021, the shift gas scrubber tower of the petroleum coke hydrogenation complex’s purification unit was installed 6 days ahead of schedule, marking the successful completion of the installation of this large-scale tower ; On October 14, the main structure of the large concrete building was fully completed ; On December 30, the main structure of the coal transfer trestle was completed across its entire length. On March 8, 2022, the spherical grid structure of the No. 1 circular stockyard was successfully completed ; On April 25, the installation of the belt conveyor equipment was completed across the entire line ; On May 9, all three facilities – the two stations and the one facility – were successfully powered up at once, marking the beginning of the instrument circuit testing.
