The first phase of Tianjin Bohua’s transformation project for integrating industry and informatization is now in full operation! Author/Source: Coal-based New Materials Date: 2022-07-03 Clicks: 15 Recently, with the successful commissioning of Tianjin Bohua’s 1.8 million tons per year methanol-to-olefins plant, 200,000 tons per year propylene plant coupled with a 450,000 tons per year styrene plant, and 300,000 tons per year polypropylene plant, it marks the full operation of the company’s first-phase projects! Phase I of the relocation and renovation project for Tianjin Bohua’s “two chemical industries” includes a 600,000-ton/year caustic soda plant, an 800,000-ton/year vinyl chloride plant, an 800,000-ton/year polyvinyl chloride plant, a 100,000-ton/year hydrogen peroxide plant, a 300,000-ton/year polypropylene plant, a 200,000-ton/year propylene oxide plant coupled with a 450,000-ton/year styrene plant, a 1.8-million-ton/year methanol-to-olefins plant, as well as supporting utilities, an in-house tank farm, a dedicated tank farm, a wharf, a 220 kV substation, and a production management area. This project will enable significant technological improvements by phasing out energy-intensive and polluting production processes such as the calcium carbide method for polyvinyl chloride and the chlorohydrin method for propylene oxide. By adopting green, efficient processing technologies and intelligent control methods, it will result in a 27% reduction in energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of output value, a 65% reduction in wastewater generation, a 92% reduction in COD levels, a 98% reduction in nitrogen oxides, and a 99% reduction in sulfur dioxide emissions. ——The first commissioning of the 200,000-ton/year propylene oxide plant coupled with a 450,000-ton/year styrene plant was successful. On June 27, the first commissioning of the 200,000-ton/year propylene oxide plant coupled with a 450,000-ton/year styrene plant (referred to as the POSM plant) in Tianjin Bohua’s relocation and transformation project, which was overseen by Tianchen Company, was successful, with qualified products being produced. This production facility utilizes Repsol’s co-oxidation process technology from Spain; it is considered an **encouraged project** as it replaces the outdated chlorohydrin process, resulting in significant improvements in energy conservation and emission reduction. ——The PO/SM plant at Tianjin Bohua has produced qualified propylene oxide. On June 21, 2022, the propylene oxide production process at the PO/SM plant within the Tianjin Bohua Petrochemical Center was successfully commissioned on its first attempt, resulting in the production of qualified propylene oxide products. This marks a phased success in the commissioning of the PO/SM plant; it represents another solid step toward the overall successful commissioning of the plant and lays the foundation for the production of styrene. The propylene oxide production process employs Repsol’s co-oxidation method, which involves using oxygen from the air to react with ethylbenzene to produce ethylbenzene peroxide; this peroxide then reacts with propylene to yield PO and MBA, from which high-quality propylene oxide is obtained through distillation. Its successful commissioning provided a solid guarantee for the subsequent production of styrene products by the PO/SM unit. ——The DMTO project at Tianjin Bohua was successfully put into operation. On June 12, the company’s 1.8 million tons per year methanol-to-olefins plant completed its initial trial run successfully, producing qualified ethylene and propylene products. Using 1.8 million tons of methanol as raw material, this project produces 328,000 tons of ethylene and 349,000 tons of propylene per year, thereby providing sufficient raw materials for the company’s VCM, PO/SM, and PP production facilities. This project is a methanol-to-olefins facility developed by Guangzhou (Luoyang) Engineering Company through further process and engineering innovation, building on the successful experience gained from the first large-scale DMTO-II industrial plant in Pucheng. It also serves as the key unit in Tianjin Bohua Chemical Development Co., Ltd.’s relocation project related to the integration of industrial and technological aspects. ——Tianjin Bohua’s 300,000-ton/year polypropylene plant is operating steadily. Recently, with the successful commissioning of Tianjin Bohua’s 1.8 million tons/year methanol-to-olefins plant, the downstream 300,000-ton/year polypropylene plant has received an adequate supply of raw materials. At present, this plant is operating stably, with its production volume gradually increasing; it continues to produce high-quality polypropylene products. This has helped to expand the company’s product portfolio, enrich its product structure, and enhance the competitiveness of its products, thereby laying a foundation for the company’s sustainable development. The PP plant uses propylene and ethylene as raw materials, and can produce 300,000 tons of polypropylene per year. This device utilizes American Rumms vapor-phase process technology to produce high-value products featuring high transparency and good flow properties, and it is widely used in industries such as automobiles, home appliances, transparent injection molding, healthcare, and piping. With the continuous rising demand for plastic products downstream, the domestic polypropylene industry is being driven forward, offering promising prospects for the future market.
