Construction begins on the 150,000-ton/year coal-based environmental-friendly carbon material project at Zhongmei Huali in Bariqun, Hami, Xinjiang

On June 6, the groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of China Coal Huali’s 150,000-ton-per-year coal-based environmental protection carbon material project was held at the Circular Economy Industrial Park in the Bariqun Western Mining Area in Xinjiang. The first phase of the 150,000 tons per year coal-based environmental protection carbon material project of China Coal Huali is located in the Circular Economy Industry Cluster in Dahongliuxia Township, Bariqun County, Hami City, about 126 kilometers away from the county seat of Bariqun. The total investment for this project is 1.266 billion yuan, with an estimated construction period of 21 months. Leveraging the coal resource advantages of the Jilangde open-pit coal mine, the project will achieve the clean conversion of scarce coal resources on-site and their utilization for high-value applications. Li Lingshu, chief engineer at China Coal Huali Xinjiang Carbon Technology Co., Ltd., said that the first phase of this project for producing 150,000 tons per year of coal-based environmental-friendly carbon materials has a capacity of 50,000 tons; the construction period is 21 months, with the goal of starting trial production in March 2026. This project relies on the high-quality raw materials from the Girondes open-pit coal mine – raw materials that are of excellent quality. The product structure of this project includes 40,000 tons of compressed and crushed carbon and 10,000 tons of granular activated carbon. These products are used in both liquid and gas adsorption applications, and can be applied in various environmental protection areas such as the advanced purification of drinking water, the treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater, food decolorization, medical and health applications, the treatment of VOCs in industrial exhaust gases, military and civilian protection, and solvent recovery. Upon completion, it will become a first-class demonstration base in China for coal-based environmental protection carbon materials, as well as a major storage facility for environmental protection emergency materials. The 150,000 t/a coal-based environmental-friendly carbon material project of China Coal Huali Xinjiang Carbon Technology Co., Ltd. relies on the high-quality coal resources unique to the Jilangde Coal Mine to produce high-quality compacted and crushed carbon. The project will be implemented in two phases, with a total planned investment of around 3.326 billion. Phase 1 will focus on the production of compressed and crushed carbon products, for which there is a significant market demand; the production capacity for this phase will be 50,000 tons per year, requiring an investment of about 1.266 billion. In Phase 2, the columnar carbon production process will be added, raising the annual production capacity to 100,000 tons per year, with an investment of around 2.019 billion.
