To deepen cooperation between institutions and enterprises and promote the green transformation of the coal industry as well as the application of carbon reduction technologies, on January 14, 2026, Wang Qiang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Shanxi Coking Coal Group Company, led a delegation to visit the Shanxi Institute of Clean Energy at Tsinghua University (hereinafter referred to as “Tsinghua Shanxi Institute”) to conduct in-depth research on innovations in green energy technology, carbon footprint management in coal mines, and industrial upgrading in line with the “dual carbon” goals. Zhuo Yuqun, Executive Deputy Dean of Tsinghua Shanxi Campus, and You Changfu, Deputy Dean, accompanied him on the inspection tour and held discussions. At the symposium, Wang Qiang expressed high praise for the achievements made by Tsinghua University’s Shanxi Campus in the research and development of clean energy technologies as well as in the commercialization of those technologies. He noted that Shanxi Coking Coal Group is actively implementing the **\"dual carbon\" strategy, accelerating the integration of coal with new energy sources, and striving to become a leading enterprise in the international coking coal market. This research aims to leverage the scientific research strengths of Tsinghua University’s Shanxi Campus to explore key technologies such as carbon footprint accounting throughout the life cycle of coal mines, the use of renewable energy as alternatives, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), in order to promote the coordinated development of traditional and clean energy sources. Zhuo Yuqun provided a detailed overview of the breakthroughs achieved by Tsinghua University’s Shanxi Campus in areas such as the clean utilization of coal-based energy, hydrogen energy storage, carbon removal, and carbon accounting. He said that the research institute will make full use of Tsinghua University’s strengths in interdisciplinary research, and by taking into account the needs of Shanxi’s energy industry, it will provide customized technical solutions for Shanxi Coking Coal Group to help the company build an integrated innovation ecosystem that combines production, academia, research, and practical application. Before the meeting, Wang Qiang and his party visited the exhibition hall of the research institute, where they learned in detail about the scientific research and industrial development efforts carried out by Tsinghua Shanxi Institute in areas such as the clean and low-carbon utilization of fossil fuels, energy conservation, integration of multiple energy sources, and digital connectivity.
