Article 5.5.1 of GB50650: “Metal tanks shall be provided with grounding for protection against direct lightning strikes. There shall be no less than 2 grounding points, which shall be evenly distributed around the perimeter of the tank. The distance between the grounding wires shall not exceed 18 meters.” ”Why isn’t it stated here that the distance between grounding points should not exceed 18 meters?
The grounding of metal tanks is generally symmetrical and even; there is no specific spacing required, as it mainly depends on the diameter of the metal tank.
If the tank does not meet the requirements for use as a down conductor, a separate down conductor must be installed; of course, the spacing between down conductors is not the same as the spacing between grounding points

Hello: Article 5.5.1 of GB50650 states that “metal tanks shall be provided with grounding for protection against direct lightning strikes; there should be no fewer than 2 grounding points, which shall be arranged evenly around the perimeter of the tank, with the distance between these grounding wires not exceeding 18 meters.” This clause already specifies that the grounding points should be arranged evenly along the tank body. There is another guideline that can be referred to: According to Article 14.2.1 of the GB50074-2014 Code for Design of Oil Depots, the distance between grounding points should not exceed 30 meters. So it can be understood as: the spacing between down conductors should not exceed 18 meters. The grounding points should be evenly distributed along the tank body; there must be no fewer than two such points, with a distance between them not exceeding 30 meters.
