In terms of hazard level, hydrogenation and catalytic coking are more dangerous. I think producing hydrogen is more dangerous.
Safety is relative! Operate safely, strictly follow the operating procedures – do not cut corners under any circumstances, and avoid relying on experience alone!
Catalytic cracking and hydrocracking are hazardous chemical processes that involve certain risks during operation. Based on experiences from recent years, these risks include pressure difference control in the reactors used for catalytic cracking, the high temperatures and wear associated with the slurry systems, as well as hydrogen sulfide in the desulfurization units; Hydrocracking units are prone to leaks due to the presence of hydrogen, high temperature and pressure, as well as hydrogen sulfide; whereas coking units have relatively lower pressures, but their working conditions are worse.

Among the hydrogenation, coking, and catalytic units, the operating conditions in hydrogenation are the most stringent – involving high temperatures, high pressures, and exposure to hydrogen. This not only poses a risk of ignition but also increases the possibility of overpressure and overheating incidents. In the case of hydrocracking, temperatures can rise rapidly from over 400 degrees to over 1000 degrees in a short time, resulting in extremely serious consequences.
