What is the difference between pulses and delays in interlocking?
Delay is a mechanism that takes into account the response time of system equipment. For example, in the oil pump system of large-scale power plants, when the main pump stops operating and the system pressure drops to the interlock value, the backup pump will start automatically. However, it takes time for the backup pump to start up, as well as time for the system to adjust to this situation; therefore, a delay of a few seconds is set to ensure that the system can continue to operate. This delay is established on the basis of ensuring that no damage is caused to the equipment.
