The pressure difference in the reactor of the diesel hydrogenation unit is continuously increasing (in the upper bed layer). The feedstock consists of straight-run diesel and coker diesel; the metal content in the feedstock is within normal limits, and the feedstock after filtration is clean. No particulate impurities were found in the samples of light fractions. The feedstock contains 9 PPm of gums, 3 PPm of chloride ions, and 300 PPM of water.

It’s very likely that there is coking on the top layer of the catalyst or too much sludge; over time, it will probably be necessary to remove that layer. After coming out of the coking unit, does the coked gasoline and diesel go directly to the diesel hydrogenation unit?

Going straight to hydrogenation reduces the likelihood of gum buildup at the top of the bed. It has only been in operation for a little over 300 days; it’s likely caused by the catalyst powder, but this is just a guess.
