There is no major issue with reducing the conversion catalyst alone; the main problem arises when it is reduced together with the medium shift reaction. In such cases, it is necessary to control the amount of natural gas fed in at the beginning, as the medium shift reduction is an exothermic reaction. If too much hydrogen is generated as a result of conversion, it can easily cause the temperature of the medium shift reaction to rise excessively.
