Emergency pressure relief valves are installed at the top of the high-pressure tank or at the top of the liquid separation tank at the inlet of the recycle hydrogen compressor in diesel and gasoline hydrogenation units. Are these pressure relief valves designed to be operated manually only, or can they also be set to operate in conjunction with interlocks? If they are to operate via interlocks, what are the conditions for such interlock action?
The hydroprocessing of gasoline and diesel occurs at low pressures and has weak cracking capacity; therefore, a manual control system is generally sufficient. If interlocks are used, they are usually linked to the shutdown of the recycle hydrogen compressor
Has the recycle hydrogen compressor stopped? Is this valve needed to lower the temperature of the reaction system?
Well, the circulating hydrogen compressor has stopped, so there is no hydrogen to carry away the heat generated by the reaction; therefore, the emergency vent valve is opened to prevent excessive temperature rise
