I have a question: when looking at the accident prevention plans related to hydrogenation processes, it is stated that in case of problems with the equipment, an emergency pressure relief mechanism operates at a rate of 0.7 MPa/min, as well as another mechanism that operates at 1.4 MPa/min. What does a pressure release rate of 0.7 MPa/min mean? It’s my first time encountering this, so please share your thoughts. Thank you
It can be understood as a protection system. It is triggered when there is a major leak in the facility, a fire breaks out, or the reactor overheats during production, etc., situations that pose a threat to the safety of the facility. One type occurs within the SIS; for example, it is automatically triggered when there is a high-high interlock for the reactor bed temperature or when the amount of recycle hydrogen becomes too low. Another scenario is that the button is pressed manually, thereby triggering the action, even before the trigger conditions are met. To put it simply, there is usually a branch at the outlet of the pipeline at the top of the cold high-pressure section that is connected directly to the vent system; once activated, this allows for a rapid release of pressure, thereby lowering the temperature of the reactor and bringing the pressure back to a safe level.
