2. Wanhua Chemical explosion accident ??? An explosion occurred at Wanhua Chemical’s Yantai industrial park, the world’s largest MDI producer, during maintenance work on the MDI production facility, resulting in 4 deaths and 4 injuries. This production facility accounts for 8% of the world’s total MDI production. Wanhua Chemical stated that at 17:22 on September 20, a 12-cubic-meter intermediate buffer tank containing crude M product exploded, injuring 8 workers. The injured were promptly taken to hospitals for treatment; 4 of them died despite efforts to save them, while the other 4 are in stable condition. According to on-site inspections, the accident did not cause pollution to the surrounding environment, and no secondary disasters occurred at the site.
