After the implementation of the new version of the \"Code for Fire Protection Design of Petrochemical Enterprises,\" storage tanks with a capacity of over 5,000 cubic meters are required to use steel internal floating roofs (in my understanding, this is similar to the floating roof design used in external floating roof tanks). So, how can corrosion and rusting, which could lead to quality issues in the stored products, be addressed? Will this also result in shorter maintenance cycles? How to inspect a floating warehouse? Is it possible to use welded stainless steel sheets? What is the overall cost? Are there any relevant studies on this topic? I welcome discussions on it.

GB 50160-2018 6.2.2 For storing liquids of Class A and Class B, floating roof tanks or internal floating roof tanks with metal floating compartments should be used. For materials with special requirements, or for tanks with a volume of 200 m3 or less, other types of tanks can be employed provided that appropriate safety measures are taken. The floating roof should be selected based on the properties of the flammable liquid and the strength of the material used, and it must comply with the following requirements: 1. When internal floating roof storage tanks with a single tank volume of 5000 m3 or less use floating roofs made of fusible materials, safety measures such as nitrogen protection should be implemented ; 2. Internal floating roof storage tanks with a single tank volume of more than 5000 m3 should use steel single-disc or double-disc floating roofs ; 3. Floating roof storage tanks with a single tank volume of 50,000 m3 or more shall use a steel double-disc floating roof.
