In the formula for calculating the thrust on the blind flange of a wave compensator, does the pressure refer to the absolute pressure of the fluid inside the pipe? Also, does the operating pressure we usually refer to mean gauge pressure? Is it the absolute pressure of the fluid minus atmospheric pressure?
The pressure used in the calculation of the blind flange force is gauge pressure, and the operating pressure is generally also gauge pressure.
