I have a liquid ring vacuum pump installed. The current consumption during operation is lower than the normal level; the vacuum level can only be reduced to 14 kPa before further reduction is not possible. When the backup liquid ring vacuum pump is used, the current consumption is within the normal range. I would like to ask everyone what could be the cause of this issue?
1. Leakage at the vacuum pump inlet. 2. Large gaps inside the vacuum pump, or corrosion of the impeller. 3. Poor sealing of the intake and exhaust valves inside the vacuum pump. 4. Abnormal level of the circulating water
A low current indicates that no work is being done. If the problems are not due to issues with the pump itself, it’s likely that there isn’t enough sealing fluid; try filling it up several times and maintaining a high liquid level
Under normal circumstances, it is likely due to insufficient coolant in the liquid ring pump or an obstruction in the inlet vapor pipeline; Focus on checking the condition of the coolant (clogged filters or low liquid level), and measure the outlet temperature ; If the above checks show no problems, then it’s necessary to check the condition of the vacuum pump impeller or coupling, etc.!

Was the pressure test of the vacuum system successful before evacuating?

It’s possible that the water ring pump has an excessively large clearance between its impellers. As a side note, I have oil-free dry screw pumps; each of these pumps can achieve a pressure of up to 1 Pa
