Experts, is there any organization that purges chemical process pipelines first before conducting hydrostatic testing? Hydraulic testing cannot be carried out in winter; it is planned to perform purging during winter and start the hydraulic testing after winter.
In our unit, after the mechanical installation is completed, the system is first purged (with the ends of the pipes covered with white cloth to remove slag and other impurities), followed by a hydrostatic test in accordance with GB 50184-2011. After some water has been drained, the system is put into operation with water; once all the water has been removed, the system is purged again. Afterwards, it is pressurized to check for air leaks, and soap water, pressure gauges, and thermometers are used to verify the results of these tests (in accordance with AQ5212-2011)
There are several prerequisites for performing a purging followed by hydrostatic testing. First, the process must be compatible with water inside the system and pipes; the presence of water should not cause any additional side effects or hazards. Second, the water used must meet the requirements of the process – soft water or deionized water should be used, as water containing sediment is not suitable
It is possible to do so, but if there are leaks after pressure testing, welding will be required followed by another purging process.
