There is a direct relationship between the outlet water temperature and the wet-bulb temperature of a cooling tower. The wet-bulb temperature represents the theoretical cooling limit of a cooling tower. The design water outlet temperature of small mechanical draft cooling towers is typically 5–8°C higher than the wet-bulb temperature. A wet-bulb thermometer can be made by wrapping gauze around the bulb of a regular thermometer; the gauze is soaked in still water, and the temperature obtained by absorbing water through this gauze is the wet-bulb temperature. Finished products are also available for purchase. For an air cooler with water added, after operating for two hours, use a thermometer to measure the water temperature, which should be approximately equal to the wet-bulb temperature. Wet-bulb temperature was monitored for two years. The highest wet-bulb temperature in summer is 25°C; the return water temperature from the cooling tower is 38–40°C, while the outlet water temperature is >33°C.
