Recently, a salon themed “Open Innovation · Pilot Operation of Chemical Projects by Central State-Owned Enterprises”, hosted by the Research Institute affiliated with China National Chemical Engineering Group, was held in Nangang, Tianjin. The event brought together experts and scholars from **think tanks, top universities, industry leaders, and government regulatory agencies to discuss ways to promote the high-quality development of pilot production bases in central state-owned enterprises. The guests present made a site visit to the pilot production facility of Sinochem (Tianjin) New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., which is affiliated with the China National Research Institute of Chemical Engineering. This new materials innovation platform facility, for which 600 million yuan was invested in the first phase, and which includes 10 production units along with supporting infrastructure, is about to move from the construction phase to full operation. During the discussion session, experts brainstormed on the key challenges in the operation and management of chemical pilot plant facilities, and shared their practical experience on topics such as the approval process for pilot projects, standardized management, optimization of scale-up processes, and the integration of equity investment. The China National Research Institute of Chemical Engineering provided an overview of the technical progress and institutional development at the Tianjin pilot plant, and showcased breakthrough achievements in the field of core catalysts. After nearly four hours of intense discussions, the participants reached a strong consensus: the pilot production bases of central state-owned enterprises must find a new mode of operation that is self-sustaining, replicable, and scalable, and they must focus on advancing technological innovation, revitalizing industries, reforming mechanisms, and updating ways of thinking, in order to create new paths for these pilot production bases to become self-financing entities.
