Dear colleagues: The inlet filter of the pump that carries fluid from the methanol distillation atmospheric tower to the stripping tower in our company is often clogged by filler fragments! The filler was replaced in October 2016 ； There have been similar situations before too! I would like to ask what factors can cause structured packing to break!

There may be an issue with the quality of the filler. A filter can be added at the extraction port to solve the current problem.
Is the sulfur content in your methanol high? Is it that the pressure control inside the tower is too high? Handle these two aspects?
The structured packing also has fragments. What material is it made of? Is it stainless steel? Could there be an issue with the quality of the packing?
Are ceramic structured packing materials being used? Typical distillation towers are made of 304 stainless steel, or 250Y.
Verify the quality of the filler； Strictly control the operation of the distillation system, carry out operations as smoothly as possible, and avoid rapid changes such as sudden cooling or heating
This situation also occurred at China Coal Hubei Energy Chemicals some time ago; based on the technical solution provided by our side, the problem of filler fragments has been completely resolved.
