If both the lifting and distillation sections of the packing are considered, these two sections should be placed at some distance from each other; components such as distributors can be used in between them. If only the strength of the packing itself needs to be taken into account, a distance of around 1.5 meters between the two sections is sufficient. The main consideration is to ensure there is enough operating space between the loading and unloading ports
In a normal design, the spacing between two packing sections is around 1600 mm; this space is used to accommodate the distributor and compression rings, as well as to leave some room for the height of the packing sections.
