The pressure test of tower equipment includes pressure test and air tightness test. The pressure test is carried out with clean water, that is, the hydrostatic test. For towers that are not suitable for hydraulic pressure testing, gas can be used instead of liquid for pressure testing. For towers that do not allow trace amounts of medium leakage or contain toxic media, the air tightness test should be conducted after passing the pressure test. The test pressure is determined based on the design drawings and actual conditions of the original tower, but generally after maintenance and before putting into production, the tightness should be tested with gas or liquid under the design pressure.
If the tower is large, it also needs to be filled with water for experiments?

The pressure test of the tower needs to be done at the equipment manufacturer. There is a pressure test report in the information provided with the tower equipment. Before trial production, you only need to do an air tightness test and check the air tightness of the connecting flange. If the pressure test is not done and the on-site inspection fails, it will have to be returned to the equipment manufacturer, which will cost a lot of freight and time.
What is the concept of on-site construction mentioned by the original poster? Is it on-site assembly welding? For towers that are assembled and welded on site, a pressure test must be done. As for whether it is water pressure or air pressure, the difference is relatively large. It must be carried out according to the requirements of the design drawings and cannot be determined by the manufacturing unit.
Generally, water pressure test is preferred. If air pressure test is used, the requirements must be increased during manufacturing, such as 100% flaw detection of welds, etc.
Hydrostatic testing is generally the first choice.
Do the water pressure first, then do the air pressure if it’s under 6kg.
If it is hoisted as a whole on site, there is no need to do a pressure test.; If the tower is segmented or assembled on site and welded in pieces, a pressure test must be done, usually a water pressure test. The air pressure test is very dangerous and has many restrictions, so it should not be done unless it is absolutely necessary.
Since it is on-site construction (assembly, welding), a pressure test must be conducted at the end of the construction. Pressure testing is also a necessary part of the completion report. For medium and high pressure towers, it is necessary to conduct a load settlement test of the foundation in advance, and continuously observe the foundation settlement during the water filling test.
