In an intermittent vacuum distillation column, the vacuum line is connected directly to the reflux tank, which is used to create a vacuum in the distillation column system. While driving the plant, the vacuum level at the top of the tower was -0.056 MPA, while the vacuum level at the bottom of the tower was -0.064 MPA. The low reflux rate meant that the material could not be extracted. Why is the vacuum level at the top of the tower higher than that at the bottom? Does the difference in vacuum level affect the upward movement of gas in the tower, resulting in a low reflux rate?
A vacuum short circuit occurred, drawing the vacuum inside the tank directly through the return pipe. It might be that the liquid seal in the return pipe is insufficient.
It is possible to consider installing a vacuum at the condenser outlet head.
What is the function of the liquid seal in the return pipe? The reflux port on the tower is located close to the top of the tower, and the reflux is driven by gravity.
There is a distillation column at the site whose vacuum tube is connected to the condenser; however, the pressure at the top of the column is -0.09 MPA, while it is -0.095 MPA at the bottom of the column. I’m not sure why
The liquid seal in the return pipe is intended to prevent rising air currents from taking a shortcut into the return tank (buffer tank, phase separator) via the return pipe, rather than passing through the top condenser of the tower.
For operation: When starting the tower, close the reflux line valve; once there is liquid level in the reflux tank, then open the reflux valve. This situation can be avoided. Attached is a simple diagram of the tower; there is a flow meter on the return pipe, and it should be impossible for gas to enter the return tank through that pipe. Are you aware of any other reasons that could cause the pressure at the top of the vacuum tower to be higher than the pressure at the bottom of the tower?
