Performance calculation of packed towers

In many engineering projects, changes in the processing volume or the properties of the feed materials often require an evaluation of the processing capacity and hydraulic parameters of the packing tower used in such systems. May I ask, what aspects are generally considered when assessing the performance of a packing tower? What indicators are available for reference and comparison? Are there any other software that can be used for direct accounting?
For the calculation of packing, packing manufacturers generally provide some basic parameters; the key aspects in the process are calculating the pressure drop and the number of theoretical plates. I currently do everything by hand; if there are any good software tools, please recommend them, OP.
