I’ve read a few posts, but I still don’t know what are the main applications of the packing in air-cooled towers and nitrogen-cooled towers? What is the cleaning method? Will it get mechanically crushed over time?
Here, both air-cooled and water-cooled towers are equipped with plastic rings. As for the cleaning method, it is necessary to remove all these rings after maintenance, and then clean them using acid. We have not encountered any problems related to fragmentation; only scaling on the surface of the filler rings has occurred, in which case those rings need to be removed and replaced. Since the plastic rings are not heat-resistant, the air-cooled towers cannot have their water supply cut off. In one instance at our factory, failure to shut down the system in time due to a lack of water supply caused the plastic rings to melt, resulting in burned plastic debris appearing in the gas distributor and return water pipes.
