Fillers and catalysts in the catalytic tower used in used engine oil refining

In used engine oil refining, a catalytic tower is installed directly above the reaction tank; this tower contains ceramic balls as adsorbents and catalysts, with more ceramic balls added in sequence. The tower is almost completely filled. I would like to ask fellow enthusiasts: why doesn’t it get clogged? Is there any better way to fill it?
There are gaps between the porcelain balls, so of course they won’t get clogged. A low density prevents clogging.
That’s what fillers are for, basically – they enable mass and heat transfer through the gaps between them
