After passing through the cooler, the oxygen-enriched liquid air enters the oxygen-enriched liquid air separator via two valves, and then proceeds to the upper column; one of these valves is used for level control, while the other is set to a low opening degree manually. What is the purpose of this valve with the manual low opening degree? (The pipe diameters are the same)

These two valves are primarily intended for better control; in fact, one valve would suffice, but this would result in a larger valve diameter. As a consequence, when adjusting the liquid level in the lower column, even a small opening degree can cause large fluctuations in the flow rate of liquid and gas. This is especially true when automatic level control is in use, as it can lead to significant fluctuations in the liquid level in the lower column. The impact is even greater when there are fluctuations in the pressure applied to the molecular sieve, as well as in the pressure and volume of air supplied by the air compressor. Use two valves; the combined diameter of these two valves should be larger than that of a single valve, thereby enabling better flow capacity. One valve maintains a fixed opening degree to allow a constant volume of liquid or air to flow, while the other valve, due to its smaller diameter, allows for more precise adjustment. The control effect will be better. Furthermore, as air separation units become larger, the volume of liquid air increases, the valve diameter grows larger, and the manufacturing costs rise. The cost of two valves with smaller diameters is lower than that of one valve with a larger diameter, which is also appropriate from the perspective of controlling costs.
