Previously, the old plant used a single-tower low-pressure full-blowoff system for the stripping of acidic water at 100 t/h; now, for the new 180 t/h acidic water treatment facility, an ammonia extraction process using the low-pressure side stream of a single tower is intended to be employed, with the extracted ammonia water being used for boiler denitration. It depends on the perspective: from a process standpoint, stripping via a single tower side stream is easier to operate than complete extraction, but it requires more equipment; moreover, ammonia salt crystallization can cause blockages during the side stream extraction phase, necessitating equipment cleaning after a while
Are you sure it’s easy to pull them all out? The equipment required for ammonia extraction is less than that for complete extraction; complete extraction only requires an ammonia-burning burner, while ammonia extraction necessitates three-stage condensation and ammonia purification.
I'm talking about the single-tower side stream, which is easier to operate. The pressure for the single-tower side stream should be kept around 0.5 MPa, while 0.1 MPa is sufficient for full extraction. If the tray gets clogged, full extraction becomes impossible to carry out, but it’s possible with a side stream
Single-tower ammonia stripping also requires an ammonia purification tower, and the secondary and tertiary condensers are prone to crystallization and blockage
I have used both processes. Relatively speaking, if the design and initial operational adjustments are similar, I tend to prefer the single-tower pressurized side-stream process. It requires more equipment than the full-blowout process, but it results in less variability in the plant operation, and ammonia burning is not necessary.
