Regarding the gas-liquid contact in a packed tower, is it better to have the gas phase removed from the top of the tower or to introduce it at the bottom of the tower?
For the tower, when drawing air from the top of the tower, there is negative pressure inside the tower; If air is blown in from the bottom of the tower, the pressure inside the tower is positive; from the perspective of gas absorption, it would be better to have a higher pressure inside the tower. For fans, the gas that is blown in from the bottom of the tower is untreated gas, while the gas that is drawn out from the top of the tower is clean, treated gas; therefore, the material choices may vary slightly. Consider it all together.
As for the tower itself, what filler to use is another matter. The basic principles of absorption towers and distillation towers are similar, but one thing is common to them: both require an upward flow of air at the point where it meets the liquid flowing downward. Whether it is \"inflation\" or \"extraction\", it is necessary to create a pressure higher at the bottom of the tower than at the top; only by establishing this pressure difference can gas flow. So this cannot be simply described as “insufflating” or “extracting”. If air is only blown in and not drawn out, overpressure will inevitably occur. Direct twitching without inflation will inevitably cause the tower to collapse. As for which one is better, it depends on the process conditions.
