How to understand why an increase in the C4 feed to the MTBE extraction tower leads to a rise in the liquid level? I think it’s likely that the level has dropped; this can be understood as an increase in the C4 feed rate and a shorter residence time, which causes water to rise and thus leads to an increase in the level
Water flows from top to bottom; the large amount of C4 feed actually holds back the water, preventing it from flowing smoothly, which causes the level to appear to rise
What instruments are used to measure your level?
A pressure gauge is installed at the bottom of the tower. On the pipeline that carries the C4 product from the top of the tower to the C4 tank, another pressure gauge is placed at the same height as the one at the bottom of the tower. The level is determined by using the pressure difference between the two gauges along with the formula for static pressure

At the top of the tower, it’s around 0.52 MPa, and at the bottom it’s around 0.56 MPa; the exact value isn’t very clear
