The carbon dioxide level at the top of the methanol scrubber tower in our plant is 4.0 – is this normal? What are the pressure of the methanol wash tower, the carbon dioxide level at the tower top, and the temperature of the lean methanol in your plant? Thank you
For methanol synthesis, 4.0 for carbon dioxide is a bit high, resulting in high distillation costs. The pressure of the scrubber tower cannot be controlled by this unit; it is determined by the upstream and downstream systems. The temperature of lean methanol is around -57 degrees Celsius.
Linde low-temperature methanol wash: carbon dioxide level of 2.0–3.0, pressure of 5.4 MPa, temperature of -60°C. Is it required to keep the carbon dioxide level at 4.0 right now, or is it impossible to lower it due to process constraints?
We use Linde’s equipment here; our processes are of good quality and quite stable. However, we face high loads and high carbon levels. The main problem is that the synthesis catalysts no longer work properly – they can’t handle carbon monoxide or produce carbon dioxide effectively. The value is now at 4.5

Determined by the MTO process, the water content in crude methanol does not exceed 6%.
