Hello, fellow sailors. I work as an acid production worker at a sulfuric acid factory; we produce acid from flue gas generated during roasting processes. Lately, our desulfurization towers have been emitting white smoke, but the emissions measurements are within normal limits. We’re unable to determine the cause of this white smoke, and that’s why I’m seeking help from you all. Thank you.
There are many reasons for white smoke; a common one is temperature changes, which cause the water vapor in the smoke to condense into water molecules. The presence of aerogels is also one of the reasons!

It seems you don’t understand what I mean. The exhaust temperature is high, while the temperature at the chimney outlet is much lower. The large temperature difference between the smoke and the air causes the water vapor in the smoke to condense, which is why white smoke appears! Also, there’s the aerogel I mentioned – how can one tell it apart? If it is water vapor, it won’t travel far; otherwise, it is mostly something similar to aerogel.

The previous flue gas whitening device could be considered; the main issue was that the temperature difference between the saturated wet flue gas and the air was too large, resulting in condensation and the formation of white smoke

Wet flue gas desulfurization? To be honest, it should be lime mist.
The tailing in the photos isn’t severe, so the smoke parameters should be within acceptable limits. White smoke is generally water vapor; if the tailing is significant, it indicates that the aerosols are not up to standard – for example, too much ammonia was used, and the excess ammonia combines with water vapor to form aerosols that do not dissipate easily.
