When a self-priming pump starts, the outlet valve is open – why is this different from ordinary centrifugal pumps? Is it prohibited to fully close the outlet valve when using a self-priming pump?

Thank you. If all the exit doors are closed, the gas inside the chamber cannot be expelled, and therefore it’s not possible to continuously draw in liquid to displace the gas from the chamber, is that right?
Under normal circumstances, ordinary centrifugal pumps do not have the capability to vent the inlet pipe. A self-priming pump, on the other hand, can evacuate the suction pipe of the pump without the need for any external auxiliary devices.
