Hello everyone. Our facility has high-pressure hydrogenation units, and the fixed-bed VGO pumps use Foster’s high-pressure centrifugal pumps. Every time the pump starts, the vibration levels at its drive end exceed the allowable limits, which triggers an interlock that stops the pump from operating. We’ve been dealing with this issue for three years now without any success in getting the pumps to function properly. We’ve even resaturated the foundation and carried out precise alignment efforts, but it still doesn’t work. Do you have any good suggestions? Is it due to the medium or something else?
Haven’t they found the cause after three years? Has the pump been disassembled, and is the assembly accuracy guaranteed for reassembly?
If it’s not a problem with the pump itself, check whether the inlet head pressure is sufficient, whether the inlet pipeline is blocked, and issues such as the inlet filter – all of these can lead to insufficient supply at the pump’s inlet, resulting in gas buildup inside the pump and vibration.
Use the process of elimination and try a different step.
It’s already like this; it’s probably a problem with the pump or the pipes. We should look for the issue from another angle, such as the inlet pipes, filters, etc.
Could you provide the model number? Check which series it is, and analyze it based on the pump’s structure
Should the pipeline system be checked for flow rate, velocity, cavitation, etc.?
The pump is a Shanghai Fusheng pump, a high-pressure centrifugal pump, with an outlet pressure of 22.0 MPa
Did it happen like this from the start, or did it take a few years for it to appear?
Are there any models? For example, WXB, HDO, CHTA, etc. – what are their specifications?
