Acrylic media are prone to polymerization, but shielded pumps and magnetic drive pumps are also used in chemical processing plants; both types of pumps are leak-free sealed pumps that rely on the self-lubrication of the medium. However, once the medium polymerizes, it can easily cause damage to the core rotor components, and the cost is very high. Do any of you sailors have any experience using it? How should one make a choice when selecting equipment? Discussion is welcome! :)

For propionic acid, a regular centrifugal pump is still used; a conical sealing chamber is employed, and double-end mechanical seals are the best choice for sealing
Shielded pumps are suitable. But once a problem occurs, it is easy for the rotor to burn out. The repair is quite difficult. Compared to centrifugal pumps, it has weaker interference resistance. However, with centrifugal pumps, the issue of mechanical seals is quite troublesome, as they need to be disassembled and repaired frequently.
Why can shielded pumps develop problems? (I used to sell NIKKISO shielded pumps.) An experienced technician took me to the sites; some of those shielded pumps had been in use for 10 years yet were still working properly.
It is related to the medium. Acrylic acid, as a medium, is prone to polymerization; temperature and the roughness inside the pipes have a significant impact on polymerization-induced blockages, which means that high standards are required for the process operations.
This kind of introduction is indeed very difficult. But Japanese pumps, if they say they can handle it, there shouldn’t be any problem. But I myself haven’t had any hands-on experience with it; I only knew it could be used while working at their company.
The shielded pumps from Nippon Seiki are also fine. If used on a clean medium, the effect is excellent.
