First of all, you are talking about frequency conversion, not speed regulation – it’s a different concept. To achieve variable frequency speed control for the pump, you can add an inverter. An inverter is an electrical device whose size is determined by its power rating; therefore, the appropriate inverter should be selected based on the power of the pump. The advantages of frequency converters are that they enable speed control, save energy, extend the lifespan of pumps, and reduce maintenance costs. Additionally, there is now a speed control device that is more energy-efficient than frequency converters – the permanent magnet variable frequency drive. Its advantage is that it uses less energy compared to frequency converters, but its disadvantage is its high cost.
Generally, it is not cost-effective to use an inverter for motors below 50kw.
