Are the round nuts of the rear bearings in the single-stage horizontal cantilever centrifugal pumps you encounter all with left-hand threads?
That’s not necessarily the case; pumps can also rotate clockwise or counterclockwise
Why do those with flower-shaped shims (round nut stop washers) need to be distinguished as left or right? Can they loosen without such distinction?
Round nuts are available in both straight-thread and reverse-thread versions, and they come with thrust washers to prevent loosening – so what’s the need for two different types of round nuts?
I agree with you, but I still see that the thread direction of the round nuts on many pumps is related to the rotation direction of the pump; it’s unclear what the designers were thinking

I used a pump whose rear bearing cover had 6 round nuts; 3 of them had left-hand threads, while the other 3 had right-hand threads. It was only after consulting the manufacturer that I learned it has different uses—adjusting gaps
In most cases, it is in the opposite direction to the pump’s rotation, so a backstop gasket is not necessary; If it is in the same direction of rotation, a backstop gasket must be added to prevent backward movement :)
