Gear-mounted twin-screw pump, used with residue oil as the medium; operating temperature of 150 degrees. It cannot self-priming and must not operate at idle speed. Please provide an explanation. Thank you
What’s there to explain? If it works, then it works; if not, it just doesn’t. Didn’t you know the properties of the pump when making the selection in the first place?
I’m not quite sure what the original poster is trying to ask. It would be a good idea to first learn about double-screw pumps, understand their operating characteristics and related requirements
Not allowing idling is probably to prevent dry grinding of the mechanical seal

It’s important that the pumps do not operate at idle speed; in other words, the mechanical seals must not grind against each other, and self-priming is not possible. May I ask what the required self-priming height is, as well as the viscosity of the material? What is the pump speed under the current operating conditions?
