Are the shaft sleeves and thrust discs of the canned pump made of 316L with hard chromium plating?

For shielded pump shaft sleeves and thrust discs, is it better to use 316L with hard chromium plating, or 304 with Stellite surfacing? Which one is more expensive, and which one is more durable?
Whether it is a coating or a welded cemented carbide layer, there is an issue related to the strength of the bond. This is acceptable under normal temperature conditions; however, in high-temperature situations or when there is severe wear, the chromium coating can easily come off due to its weak bond strength, and the welded layer can also detach easily owing to differences in thermal expansion. Cladding is more complex to apply and thus more expensive; after cladding, grinding is required

Hard chromium plating was the commonly used wear-resistant material for graphite bearings in the early days; over the past 20 years, more stable and wear-resistant Stellite surfacing has been preferred, with only smaller manufacturers still using hard chromium plating due to its lower cost. As for the material, it need only be comparable to that of the base material; after all, 316L and 304 alone do not cover all possibilities
