I talked to a wastewater treatment design firm today, and they said that the centrifugal pumps they supply aren’t aligned or centered. Proper installation of mechanical pumps requires proper alignment; many unqualified, small-scale ‘part-time’ construction teams do not understand these principles and simply consider the task complete once the pump has been fixed in place with grout. Depending on the type and size of the coupling, laser alignment or a dial indicator is used when more precise alignment is required. For some small pumps, where the couplings are of the elastic pin type or similar, it is not convenient to install a dial indicator; in such cases, where the alignment requirements are not very high, a steel ruler is usually sufficient for alignment.

Your problem lies in the acceptance criteria. During acceptance, inspection shall be carried out in accordance with the alignment requirements specified in the equipment’s user manual; if no such standards are available, inspections can be conducted based on relevant standards. As long as the equipment operates properly and no issues arise during the warranty period, it is considered acceptable. All of this is stipulated in the contract. If it is beyond the scope of the contract, a request for technical changes should be submitted. For these types of small water pumps, just use half a piece of steel saw blade and press it against them, leaving an appropriate gap; once that’s done, the pump should start working right away. The key is that it is considered accepted as long as there are no issues during the usage period.
The factory conducts online tests before the products leave the facility; it is possible to send personnel to attend these tests and inspections, in order to determine whether the pump meets the design and operational requirements based on parameters such as vibration, temperature, and operating conditions. After leaving the factory and undergoing transportation, a visual inspection upon arrival at the site showed no dents, rust, or damage. On-site installation was completed with no issues regarding alignment or centering; commissioning proceeded without problems. Acceptance was finalized, and the equipment entered its operational warranty period.
