Time required to refill the diesel tank: 1 hour. Design flow coefficient of the transfer pump: 1.1. Base period for the daily diesel tank capacity: 24 hours. Available volume coefficient of the daily diesel tank = 0.95. Residence time in the main diesel tank = 7 days (Note 1). Calculations: Diesel flow rate per diesel generator = 0.4 m3/h (from the table above). Total diesel flow rate = 0.8 m3/h (0.4 * 2). Theoretical daily capacity of the fuel tank per diesel generator = 9.6 m3 (0.4 * 24). Actual daily usable capacity of the fuel tank per diesel generator = 10.11 m3 (9.6 / 0.95). Maximum daily diesel consumption = 19.2 m3 (9.6 * 2), where 2 is the number of diesel generators in operation. Maximum diesel flow rate = 19.2 m3/h (19.2 / 1), where 1 is the diesel filling time in hours. Designed capacity of the diesel pump = 21.12 m3/h (19.2 * 1.1). Working volume of the main diesel tank = 134.4 m3 (19.2 * 7). Note: 1. The total diesel storage capacity for installations on land is usually 7 days; it is typically 15 days for installations on land as well. 2. The example above considers a main oil storage tank and a separate daily tank for each diesel generator. In many cases, the dwell time of the diesel generator’s daily tank is 8–12 hours rather than 24 hours; this means that filling is required twice a day when the dwell time is 12 hours, and three times a day when it is 8 hours
