Reasons why a metering pump cannot run in reverse
The rotation direction of the flow regulation lock nut should be such that it becomes tighter as it is turned; if turned in the opposite direction, it will loosen after a few starts and stops. In mild cases, the adjustment loses its effectiveness, while in severe cases it will get stuck after just a few attempts to adjust it
The main reason is that in worm gear transmission, when the direction of rotation is reversed, the direction of the forces acting on the worm and the worm gear changes.
For the small metering pumps used in vertical motors, there is a bearing at the upper part of the worm, which is also the lower part of the counter gear; lubricating oil can be delivered to this bearing during forward rotation, while reverse rotation can result in a lack of lubrication in the upper bearing

The direction of the axial force acting on the worm will change, causing the positioning bearing to fail
