There are 2 submersible sewage pumps with a capacity of 18.5 KW, a head of 20 meters, and dual mechanical seals; they operate continuously in the sludge wastewater tank, which contains a high amount of sediment. After 2 years of operation, these two pumps have become worn out to this extent. The impeller is made of wear-resistant white cast iron, with a sand-like substance sprayed on its surface. The volute is made of MT-4 material, which is particularly not wear-resistant. I would like to ask the experienced professionals if there are any cases or experiences regarding the selection of materials and the transportation of sediment in such situations.
Here’s a suggestion. I encountered a similar problem back then as well; there was basically no solution. Finally, I thought of the slurry pump. The method involves making holes in the horizontal walls of the sewage tank at the bottom of the tank to insert pipes, digging out a slurry pump room, and installing two slurry pumps, one in use and one as a backup; if short-term shutdown is permissible, only one pump needs to be installed. It works well. However, slurry pumps also dislike debris such as fibers and gravel. It’s worth a try.
Two years under these operating conditions is already quite good; it’s fine to continue using them in this way. . . .

Avoiding turbulence, allowing for segmented settlement, and solid-liquid separation can extend the pump’s lifespan; combined with a dredger, it’s perfect. Haha!
With such operating conditions, a lifespan of two years is already considered long; cast iron pumps are inexpensive, so one shouldn’t expect too high a service life from them
I’ve been using it for 2 years; it’s time to get a replacement. In situations with sediment, the component can wear out in just 2 months – sometimes the impeller is completely worn away. If you can replace the parts and fix it, that’s a real profit: lol
