During the shutdown of the circulating water station equipment in our plant, one night the shift supervisor, while conducting a inspection, found that one of the circulating water pumps was running with its outlet valve closed – it had not been turned on manually. It is not possible to stop the pump on site. What is the reason?

It’s too general; there are many reasons. It depends on what is used for control – whether there is an on-site switch or a centralized control system. If the on-site switch isn’t activated, it’s possible that the centralized control system will activate it automatically. When the centralized control system is active, it’s impossible to operate manually; one must use the on-site switch instead. If there is a knob without any protection mechanism, then when the switch is set to centralized control, the motor will stop. Another reason is that the stop button is broken; pressing it has no effect and the power doesn’t turn off. If the device runs out of power, there is a problem with the centralized control system. Is this controlled by a DCS or a PLC? It’s best to ask specifically and conduct a detailed analysis.
