Based on the movement of the elastic elements in the compensation mechanism, mechanical seals can be divided into rotary and stationary types. A compensation mechanism that rotates with the shaft is called a rotary mechanical seal (Figure 2) ; A mechanical seal in which the compensation mechanism does not rotate (installed within the gland) is called a static mechanical seal (Figure 3). Mass imbalance tends to occur when the compensation mechanism rotates, and this also consumes mixing power; therefore, rotary seals cannot be used at high speeds ; While static seals can be used at high speeds. However, rotary seals are easier to install, which is why most conventional mechanical seals adopt a rotary design.
Rotary mechanical seal: This type of mechanical seal is characterized by a compensation mechanism that can rotate along with the shaft. This rotation is usually done to accommodate the movement of machinery and equipment. However, rotary mechanical seals are prone to mass imbalance during rotation, which consumes stirring power. Therefore, they are generally not suitable for devices operating at high speeds. However, the advantage of rotary seals is their relatively easy installation; therefore, this type of seal is commonly used in ordinary mechanical seal systems. Stationary mechanical seal: This type of mechanical seal is characterized by a compensation mechanism that does not rotate during operation; therefore, such seals are usually installed within a gland. Since they do not rotate, static seals do not cause mass imbalance nor consume additional mixing power, allowing them to operate at high speeds. Although static seals may not be as easy to install as rotary seals, their performance and durability make them widely used in various devices that require higher speeds and efficiency. .
